Carpool Lane Reminder

Parents this is just a reminder that you should not use your cell phones while picking up students in the carpool lanes.  Often parents are texting and/or talking on their cell phones while driving.  Not only does this impair their abilities to navigate the vehicle in the driving lane, it is also a grave safety issue for staff who are conducting traffic and for students who are passengers in those vehicles.  According to the CDC website on driving and cell phones,  In 2011, 3,331 people were killed in crashes involving a distracted driver, compared to 3,267 in 2010. An additional, 387,000 people were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving a distracted driver in 2011, compared to 416,000 people injured in 2010.” (http://www.cdc.gov/Motorvehiclesafety/Distracted_Driving/index.html :retrieved April 1, 2014)

Please note this is a violation of district policy!  If you have any further concerns, or questions, please refer to the Rio Rancho Public Schools Website and review policy/procedures in the Sandia Vista Elementary School Parent and Student Handbook. It is on pg.5 under the heading Arrivals/Departures.
